The Dolphins hold their first scrimmage at 7 Monday night at Sun Life Stadium. In preparation, they held a walk-through this morning inside the bubble, but what happened there was top secret, because it was closed to the media.
A few highlights from the media session following the walk-through:
* Top pick Dion Jordan said he has no problem whatsoever with being asked to play special teams. He says if players do have a problem with playing on special teams, “It’s something to say about you. … Me personally, I started on all special teams in high school, even in Oregon. And I started on defense. I love to compete.”
To fans worried about the No. 3 overall pick risking injury, special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi said, “There’s a risk to getting hurt when we go out here and stretch.
* Rizzi, on the kicker competition between incumbent Dan Carpenter and draft pick Caleb Sturgis, who hasn’t been able to kick because of a groin injury: “The benefit of that situation is we still have five preseason games.” Rizzi said “everybody that’s watched Caleb knows he’s got a very strong leg” and said Carpenter is “a consistent guy and a consummate professional.”
* Receiver Brandon Gibson, on Armon Binns being out for the season with a knee injury: “It’s frustrating just because he was having such a good camp and we were depending on him for a lot of different things. He’s a talented player. He will be missed.”
